We often attach intent to kids speech when we shouldn't. Babies, kids - that kind of thing.
However, we don't do that when kids walk funny, or grab funny - because we know that they lack the co-ordination and motor skills to for any of those cute behaviors to be intentional. We don't tell out babies to "walk that cute waddle again!" after they've done it once - because we know it's not intentful, and therefore not reproducible.
However, we miss this fact with their speech - and often interpret the cute ramblings as intentional. While the emotions being emoted in these are very likely very real, the actual mechanics of the sounds and intonations is probably not. We keep asking them to repeat a certain phrase a certain way, or try to recreate a situation to elicit a similar response from them. However, more often than not - it doesn't happen.
These moments remain in our memories and our photo libraries - always coming back when called upon 🙂.
